FIFA Vice President Jack Warner was heavily mobbed upon his arrival in Cairo, Egypt  on Tuesday as a host of media correspondents crowded him prior to the commencement of FIFA’s site inspection for the country’s hosting of the 2009 FIFA World Youth Championship.

Warner arrived there following the Caribbean Football Union Congress in Guadeloupe on the weekend and was immediately quizzed for his thoughts on the Egypt’s hosting of the prestigious world championship as well his feelings on the country’s triumph in the just concluded African Nations Cup.

Since Egypt’s 1-0 win over Cameroon in the final last month, the home supporters continue to be in a frenzy and according to Warner the staging of the Championship there in 2009 could not have been at a better time.

Thousands of flag-waving Egyptians lined the road to Cairo from the airport, Egyptian President Hosni  Mubarak and his son greeted the team off the plane. And while there might not have been the similar number of fans there on Tuesday, there was  heavy security personnel and officials to welcome Warner and other members of the FIFA inspection crew.

“We are here to inspect the facilities before the country goes on to host the Championship next year and from all signs thus far, the country seems to be in a frenzy over football and the organizers… the people are very enthusiastic over the hosting of the tournament. I expect that everything will be in place and the inspection shall go smoothly over the next few days,” Warner said. (March 4, 2008. Photos show Warner upon his arrival in Cairo)
